Using local buy/sell apps is easy, except when it comes time to meet a stranger in a parking lot. Trusted Exchange is a new app that that helps you avoid the parking lot meet-up by offering a safer and more convenient way to exchange items.

With Trusted Exchange, you just need to drop off or pickup up items at local retail locations. This means the seller can drop off and the buyer can pick-up on their own terms, all in a cashless transaction at trusted local retailer. Simple- an easy way to exchange goods and funds without ever meeting in person!

"There is pain in the exchange!"

The Problem

“There is pain in the exchange!” exclaimed Julio.

In 2017, the co-founder of Trusted Exchange vented to his co-workers about his frustrating weekend and his inability to sell some quality household items.

“Why are there so many flakes out there? It’s so easy for people to say they want to buy from you, but it’s so hard to arrange a meet up in a place that works for everyone and is relatively safe.”

That’s when Doug, another co-founder, looked up and shrugged “Why don’t you fix it, build a better mousetrap”. And with that, the Trusted Exchange concept was born.

The Solution

Trusted Exchange was designed to create a better user experience for buying and selling goods in online marketplaces. While listing an item for sale is easy, the pain and hassle of trying to meet up at the same time with a complete stranger is real.

Trusted Exchange is premium local pickup service. It’s a better way to complete sales transactions on local online marketplaces (Facebook, Craigslist, OfferUp, LetGo, Mercari, Etsy, Locante, etc) Usually, it’s easy to post an item or find an item you want to buy on these sites, but it’s a real pain to try and coordinate a parking lot meet up. Not only is it inconvenient, it may be dangerous.

Trusted Exchange give users more convenience and a safer exchange experience. It allows buyers and sellers an alternative to meeting in parking lots at the same time. Buyer and Sellers can exchange goods and funds without ever meeting!

Sellers can simply drop of their items and a local participating store while buyers are notified when the item is available for pickup, at a time convenient for them. More importantly, buyers and sellers are safer by using well established retail locations to facilitate the exchange.

A typical exchange is when a seller provides an item in exchange for money. This exchange usually occurs when buyers and sellers meet in the same place at the same time to exchange an item for cash.

Usually, buyers and sellers spend significant amounts of time, messaging back and forth to scheduling the date, time and location to meet in the same place at the same time to complete an exchange. This can be very inconvenient and frustrating for everyone, especially if one person flakes out!

A flake is someone who generally makes plans with you, promises to do things with or for you but can never seem to follow through. In many cases, they provide empty promises about buying items or meeting at specific times or locations and then never show up or disappear entirely. So frustrating!

Trusted Exchange helps to prevent flakes by ensuring that buyers commit payment to sellers, while at the same time ensuring that an item has been dropped off before notifying buyers to pick-up. Even though buyers have made payment, that payment won’t be given to the seller until the buyer agrees to accept the item. Buyers have the option to inspect items prior to payment being handed over to the seller.

It’s easy! When Trusted Exchange is available in your area, just click the “Start Exchange” or “Join Exchange” link at the top menu.

Both buyers and sellers can start an exchange and invite the other party to join the exchange. However, to start an exchange, you must register a Trusted Exchange account. Only registered accounts can start an exchange. Non-registered users can only join an exchange.

Registered users can start an exchange which will create a unique code that can be shared with another person. This code can be entered at using the “join transaction” link.

Registered Trusted Exchange users can create a new exchange and invite other users to join a transaction by sharing a unique code which can be entered at Buyers joining a transaction do not have to be a registered user, but are required to submit payment information.

Both registered and non-registered users can join an exchange by entering a unique Exchange Code provided to them by another person who has started an exchange. This code is entered into the “join transaction” link on

Once two people join an exchange, the Buyer will be prompted to make payment to Seller. The Buyer’s payment will be for the mutually agreed sales price of the item, plus any fees assessed by Trusted Exchange. Upon successful payment by the Buyer, the Seller will receive a notification that the Buyer has made payment and the Trusted Exchange App will direct the Seller to drop off the item at the Venue within the agreed upon time period. (The Buyer’s payment will not be transferred to the Seller until later, when the Buyer has completed the exchange and taken possession of the item at the venue.)

When the Seller drops the item off at the Venue the Buyer will receive a notification that the item has been dropped off and the App will direct the Buyer to pick-up the item within three days. During the pick-up process at the Venue, the Buyer will have the ability to inspect the item for any material discrepancy in the Sellers original description, quality or condition. For any material discrepancy the Buyer will have the ability to reject them item at the Venue and the Buyers funds will be refunded. If there are no issues with the item, the Buyer will take possession of the item by providing an acceptance signature. Upon this acceptance, the Seller will receive a notification that the Buyer has purchased the item and the Buyer funds will be passed to the Sellers Stripe Connected Account within 24 hours, less any applicable fees assessed by Trusted Exchange. At this point, the Trusted Exchange is complete!

Trusted Exchange uses Stripe to move funds from buyers to sellers. Trusted Exchange partners with the payment processor Stripe to enable sellers to accept electronic payment methods.

By using Trusted Exchange to accept cashless payments, you agree to the Stripe Connected Account Agreement, which includes the Stripe Terms of Service (collectively, the "Stripe Services Agreement"). A venue is a participating local retailer that has agreed to meet Trusted Exchange’s requirements for providing a convenient and safer location to drop off and pick up items. These locations are typically existing retailers in your local community.

No, we are not. We enable marketplaces by giving buyers and sellers a premium local pickup option that allows the exchange goods and funds in a more convenient and safer way.

Trusted Exchange assesses an exchange fee based on the value of the goods exchanged. In addition, convenience fees may apply to buyers and sellers based on each exchange requirements. View a schedule of fees in our Terms and Conditions (linked).
